I think this is a fantastic beer! I agree that many people will not like this. Yet the abundance of tastes and the evolution in the mouth prove this is a top brew. And this is the honest opinion of a Belgian beer lover;-)
Stunning complex beer really bitter and lots of hops and great aroma, I also agree not to everydodies tastes, but if you like your beer bitter and hoppy then you are in for a real treat !
Took a risk and bought the last few bottles from Tesco at £2.19 each. First thing that him me was the intense smell of grapefruit and orange zest. Then the hops kick in and then a sweetness from the caramel malts. Took a sip and could not believe how clean and hoppy this stuff is. It's so easy to drink and never gets sickly or cloying. The 9.2% ABV is hidden really well and tastes so refreshing. The bitter finish lasts for ages and puckers the mouth and makes you thirsty. I will buy all I can of these. A real quality DIPA and I can never drink Stella again.
I thought an amazing beer. even more amazing is knowing that back in 2010 it would only cost £1.00, according to Curmuedgeon. now it's definitely douple IPA, or £2.00, still, I enjoyed a lot! very much worthy of.
I wasn't too keen on this - too much like hard work, I thought.

ReplyDeleteYer, great beer. Too easy to swig it back. And that's despite the bitterness at the end. Those sailors were bloody lucky.(unless my history is cr@p)
ReplyDeleteCurrently available in my local Tesco for a bargain £1 a bottle - has it proved too extreme for many punters, I wonder.

ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely beer and I'm amazed that Tesco have stuck their neck out to stock it but so glad that they have.
