The "marmite" of the beer world. There was a time that this would have been my favourite beer and I would have rated it a 5 out of 5. But sometimes your tastes change and I think I might agree with you now - not sure why this is. Anyway, I don't think I will ever get rid of those two remaining bottles!

I won this ale ages ago and it was the very last of the 12 to get the baron treatment - I kept on picking it up and then selecting something else instead - I knew I wasn't going to like it.

I had some discussion with Badger about it when I tried it and they said it was a complete Marmite beer as well, it's good that we all have so many varied tastes!

On Friday I sampled a bottle of Bath Barnstormer and a couple of bottles of Windsor Knot - I have to say I think your reviews are spot on. The only problem is when you take a chance on a beer or receive one as a gift and then you see it has a baron rating of between one and three. But I suppose it does prepare you for the actual quality and stops the feeling of disappointment.

Thank you very much for the kind feedback, it's lovely to hear that you think we have them spot on as we try our best to give any beer whether bought or sent a fair and honest review even if that means an average to low score.

You can tell I reviewed Barnstormer a while ago, it was before I got my AllBeer tasting glass and so I was 'doing a Zak Avery' with the oversized wine glass (which I must say is a great way to sample ale).

Please continue to comment, why not add your '[martin rating ?/5]' score to the ales on my site that you try?

I have to disagree with these comments, I am an ale drinker and I received this in a drinking pack call the Badgers Sett and I must say that this has the nicest, warmest most flavoursome ale I have had in along time. The only problem now is getting hold of the darn stuff! No one stocks it anywhere. I rate this 5-5, the best amongst a lot of bland 'bitter' ales we are seeing on the shelves.

This beer has not been "reviewed", it's simply been given a meaningless 1/5 ( based on what? ) score & a dismissive "Ribena" comment. You "knew you weren't going to like it", what does that mean exactly?

This beer tastes like blood...that's good enough for me.

First I'll respond to the score part: I didn't like it to the point that I couldn't drink it and poured it down the sink - that gets a 1/5 on my scoring system.

Please remember that this is a personal website with my own personal view, if you are after consensus reviewing then maybe a site like RateBeer would be better for you?

And about knowing that I wasn't going to like it? Well there's all the plums and fruit on the front, there's the highish ABV all suggesting a very fruity malt lead drink with quite a lot of sweetness - not my favourite category of beer and I was proven correct.

As for tasting of blood? Not sure that I picked up on any metallic flavours but each to their own, I'm glad you liked it.

As other people have said above they love it but it's a Marmite beer...

this is a great beer I just bought 4 from Tesco, but I'd already tried it before anyway:) I love the depth of the beer and if you follow it with a hobgoblin the hobgoblin tastes even better! give it a go! trust me :)
